Artist Statement
Being Portuguese deeply shapes my artistic identity. Growing up in a country where culture and history are strongly intertwined, I developed a perspective rooted in introspection and emotional depth. These influences inspired my early engagement with the arts and continue to inform my practice today.
My work reflects my personal evolution, translating life experiences into geometric and abstract forms that capture my evolving understanding of the world. As both an engineer and an Artist, I merge analytical precision with creative intuition, crafting pieces that inspire viewers to reflect on their own journeys, emotions and perspectives. These dual influences define my approach, transforming complex ideas into clear and compelling compositions.
Engineering shapes my artistic process, where analytical rigor and problem-solving guide my creativity. Precision and spontaneity coexist in these geometric works, blending structured systems with intuitive expression. This synthesis allows me to push boundaries and create thought-provoking pieces that bridge technical discipline with artistic freedom.
Moments of joy and struggle, insights from artists and individuals with unique perspectives, and my own emotional reflections all shape my practice. Whether inspired by a book, a conversation or a personal experience, I absorb and internalize its meaning, transforming it into a visual language. This allows me to share not just the ideas themselves, but the personal journey behind them, inviting others to reflect, relate, and connect with their own inner narratives.
The simplicity of my visual language is intentional. I use opaque, flat colors and a restrained palette to distill complex concepts into direct, intuitive forms. Each color carries a specific meaning, black — which dominated my early works — represents pain and depth, while the introduction of vibrant hues signifies growth, positivity, and transformation. Black lines remain as a structural element, mirroring life’s challenges that give meaning to brighter moments.
My practice is constantly evolving and each piece I create teaches me something new. Rooted in geometric works, I have expanded my artistic exploration into layered techniques, modular compositions, and even mechanical elements, integrating my engineering background into my art. These developments mark my continued exploration of art’s potential to bridge engineering and creativity, crafting challenging and inspirational pieces while pushing the boundaries of traditional formats.
